Indica, Sativa, Hybrid: What’s the Difference?

Many of us can remember the days when we did not have a choice of what kind of weed we wanted to smoke. But with the boom of modern legal marijuana shops, we now can fine-tune our tastes to reach that perfect high. Often, the way that budtenders attempt to understand what high someone is seeking by asking, “Indica, Hybrid, or Sativa?” While many people will know what type of strain they are looking for, many people do not.

Indica plants are different from sativa plants in size, growing short, shrubby, and with wide leaves. Indica strains tend to be more relaxing, more stress-relieving, and can be sedative. Sativa plants have skinnier, longer leaves and grow taller. Sativa strains tend to be focused, uplifting, euphoric, and energizing.

When it comes to Hybrids, they have a broad category of their own. Hybrids can either be “fifty-fifty,” or right in the middle when it comes to effect. These Hybrids tend to be just the right balance of relaxation and happiness. Indica-dominant and Sativa-dominant Hybrids are also very common, more common now than 100% pure Indica or Sativa. In this realm of hybrids, strains carry very different flavors and effects. For example, Snoop’s Dream by Pur is an Indica-dominant Hybrid, and has a relaxing, cozy body effect paired with a dreamy head-high similar to Blue Dream. On the other hand, Dutchberry by Artizen is a cross of Dutch Treat and Blueberry, and has a skunky, berry aroma and an energetic, stony effect.

Our budtenders can recommend a strain based on your preferences! Sample some different types to find your perfect balance of Sativa and Indica. Or perhaps, you like to be right in the middle with a solid Hybrid. No matter how you want to feel, there is most likely a strain for you.
